Decocrush #1- Wallpaper trends between floral & tropical.

By 17 June 2015No Comments

Did you ever noticed? Speaking of wallpapers, you either love it or hate it. And this often for good reason!

The first images that spring to mind are usually those famous old England tapestry or those overfilled sixties style walls.

Even though, the wallpaper trend is coming back in a big way, and the choices of patterns becomes wide. We should admit that some designs are absolutely crazy! So, what should I do if I give in, but don’t want to transform my house into a Downton Abbey castle or just puke while the next hangover…

I really enjoyed making this selection by picking up a mix of floral and tropical patterns, with a touch of bohemian. (Because something is telling me that this trend is also coming back soon! )

Those patterns are really not easy to work with, but when you have a crush on them, some little advices can help. And it can be the perfect occasion to break with a clean Scandinavian style:

– Choose a large bright room.
– With high ceilings it’s even better!
– Avoid colors overfilling around and prefer white walls.
– Choose an open wall with a door or a window to avoid the constricting feeling.
– Using colored patterns, play around with complementary colors and opt for neutral furniture with clean lines.

Bohemian style:
Opt for a floral pattern and play with contrasts! Here, the atmosphere can quickly becomes uncomfortable, so avoid putting to much furniture around, and work with complementary colors.

Tropical Style:
Are you not falling in love with those Paradise birds? Colors are exploding everywhere, and the wall becomes alive. Here as well, avoid fulfilling the room and let the wallpaper live it’s own life! Choose wicker or wood furniture and extend the tropical style with large plants that will merge nicely with the patterns.

Big Floral style:
Save yourself from a kitschy and candy box style, and dare to try some gigantic and dark flowers.
This type of pattern is perfect for a cozy loft and could also works with a black and white arty style. Or maybe an intimate atmosphere made with leather, and reminding a glass of Scotch on the Rocks. Don’t you hear the sweet ice cubes song?
Yet avoid entirely covering a room if you don’t want to achieve a panic attack.
